Most comic creators would consider themselves blessed if they had a hand in creating even one well known comic book character. Wein has done just that, with the two best known being Wolverine and Swamp Thing.
Wein first started in comics with in DC's Teen Titans #18., and later began scripting occasional issues of DC superhero titles like Adventure Comics, The Flash, and Superman, and The Phantom Stranger. In 1971 Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson created the horror character Swamp Thing in The House of Secrets #92 (July 1971). Over the next several decades, Swamp Thing would star in DC series and miniseries — including an initial 1972–76 series begun by Wein and Wrightson. Wein also wrote a run on Justice League.

In the early 1970s, Wein began writing regularly for Marvel Comics on Daredevil, Marvel Team-Up, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Mighty Thor and Fantastic Four, The Defenders and Brother Voodoo. It was during his Hulk run that he, along with artists John Romita Sr. and Herb Trimpe, introduced one of the comic world’s most popular characters, Wolverine.
In 1975, Wein and artist Dave Cockrum bought the comic book the X-Men back after a hiatus. Changing the membership of the team, he introduced Nightcrawler, Storm, and Colossus, and brought over another of his creations – Wolverine – creating a line up which has remained at the core of the team since.
Since then Wein has written several runs for DC including Green Lantern and Batman and recently wrapped up a run on Justice League. He has also written for animated television shows ranging from Batman, Swamp-Thing, X-Men and the Spiderman to the Transformers and Gargoyles.
On top of writing, he has also worked for many years as an editor at Disney Comics and DC. As an editor he is best known for Editing Alan Moore’s and Dave Gibbon’s Watchmen.
